

Hand and FootI concentrated on the soft squish of the earth beneath my feet; fallen leaves sunk into the dirt under my weight. A light mist hovered above the damp grass and the distant coo of a dove echoed in my ears. My eyes scanned the yard before me, straining to recognize what I had once known well. I stole a glance back at the dimly lit house I walked away from, studied the cool moss creeping upon the foundation. It was early; my family would still be tucked into warm beds, snoozing away the worries plaguing their minds. I glanced at my grandparent's bedroom window. It remained dark, the lace curtains drawn.
